Incontinence surgery

Incontinence surgery (TVT/TOT sling placement)

The TVT operation (tension free vaginal tape) or TOT operation (transobturator tape) is performed under general anaesthesia Once the anaesthetic takes effect two small skin incisions are made above and below the pubic bone and another small incision on the vaginal wall situated near the urethra. A special instrument now guides the plastic tape out of the vagina, behind the pubic bone and to both of the smaller incisions. Cystoscopy then makes sure that the bladder has remained undamaged. With a full bladder the tape is tightened and a cough test determines when the involuntary loss of urine is constrained and incontinence has been remedied.
